at Rosenthaler Platz Forget the jeweler’s shop and arts and crafts stores. A widely unknown independent scene of innovative design is brewing in the background, moving in the same cosmos of ideas and inspiration as does innovative architecture, fashion, or advertising.
The OONA gallery works together with such artists discovering new trends in jewelry design. Incorporating a global mix of pictures and ideas into their work—like substituting simple, everyday objects for precious stones—the contemporary jewelry comes alive as a signifier of life rather than an inanimate ornament. Each exhibit is accompanied with a personal conceptualization of the theme; OONA brings in architects, photographers and stylists to complement the show. Added to this is the gallery’s open display and free-to-handle-as-you-please policy of the pieces, enhancing the connection between artist, concept, and audience.
