They do one thing here and they do it well: french fries. Julienned from fresh potatoes, tossed with lots of salt, and then topped off with your sauce of choice, these made-to-order pommes frites get as much personal treatment as the coffee at Starbucks.

While the fries are quite tasty on their own, what makes Beckers stand out is their long list of inventive condiments and sauces. While some sound less appealing than others (i.e. apple sauce), be experimental—many combinations (peanut sauce, guacamole) are surprisingly good.

Even we will brave the sex workers and pub-crawling tourists on Oranienburgerstrasse to eat the fries at Beckers Fritten, perfectly crisp and salted, smothered in creative condiments. And yes, even we will smile at the crabby lady who mans the stand, because her hand is the hand that feeds.
