A sandy gem a world away from Berlin’s hustle and bustle.

Built in the early ‘30s near Rahnsdorf east of the city, it’s not the most central swimming spot, but an excursion to Mueggelsee, the largest lake in the vicinity of the German capital, is definitely worthwhile. Lean back in wicker beach chairs and watch the distant boats sail by, while children build their castles in the sand and the adults theirs in the air.

Long hot summer - Berlin

Long hot summer
Urban Beach Emulation

The twin lakes of Schlachtensee and the smaller Krumme Lanke, both within Grunewald, with their wide perimeter paths form superb open air active bases, and are very popular with joggers, chillers, walkers and drifters. The sandy beaches are attractive in summer to sun bathers and soft soil dancers. Müggelsee is the biggest lake in Berlin and lies at the end of a big recreation area, that ranges from Treptower Park over Plänterwald till the Müggelberge. The area is perfect for BBQ sessions, bicycle rides or beaching.
