The lovely Monbijoupark on the banks of the River Spree plays host to the Hexenkessel Hoftheater’s annual open-air theatre series. This year the focus is on Shakespeare and Molière. The Hoftheater employs its very own concept – with very few actors, the team tries to present theatre in a reduced format without allowing Shakespeare’s depth to be lost. Refreshments are available at the bar close to the theatre area.

Monbijoupark may not be quite the size of Berlin’s Tiergarten, but it has an adventure playground, houses some art studios of the Berlin Art School and also contains a swimming pool. The park has been extensively renovated and rebuilt since it was first created in 1703 as a garden for a small castle, and is now a protected area of green belt land.
